Australia Moto2: Alex de Angelis takes pole

Alex de Angelis claimed pole position in the final minutes of qualifying at Phillip Island. Mike di Meglio and Yuki Takahashi complete the front row in second and third.

Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing Team) qualified in fourth, ahead of Kena Sofuoglu and Pol Espargaro in fifth and sixth. Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing) will start tomorrow’s race from seventh on the grid, with Stefan Bradl and Thomas Luthi completing the third row in eighth and ninth.

Marc Márquez will start the Moto2 race from the back of the grid having had a one minute penalty added to his qualifying time for his collision with Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda Singha-SAG) at the end of Friday’s first practice session.
