Mugello MotoGP: Terol steals 125 win

1 of 1

Nicolas Terol (Bankia Aspar Team 125cc) stole a brilliant win from Avant-AirAsia-Ajo rider Johann Zarco at Mugello, patiently stalking the Frenchman thoughout the second half of the race before getting the drive out of the final corner to power past Zarco.

Championship leader Terol managed a great start, moving from fifth to first into the first corner, whilst Zarco moved past Salom to take second. Zarco trailed Terol until lap ten where he slipped past on the inside to take the lead. Terol then rode strategically, hanging on to Zarco before making his move coming out of the last corner in the final seconds.

Maverick Vinales (Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing) battled throughout the race for the final place on the podium with fellow Spaniards Efren Vazquez (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo) and Hector Faubel (Bankia Aspar Team 125cc), having to work hard to hold off Vazquez. With five laps remaining Faubel claimed third whilst Vinales and Vazquez were embroiled in their own scrap, but Vinales was able to reclaim third with three laps to go to take his fourth podium of the season.

Vazquez finished the race in fourth, ahead of Faubel and Luis Salom (RW Racing GP) who took fifth and sixth respectively. Sergio Gadea (Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing) took seventh place, with Andalucia Banca Civica team mates Miguel Oliveira and Alberto Moncayo close behind in eighth and ninth. Ongetta-Centro Seta rider Jakub Kornfeil completed the top ten.

Danny Kent (Red Bull Ajo MotoSport) finished just inside the points in fifteenth place at the Italian circuit, whilst Taylor Mackenzie (Phonica Racing) took seventeenth place. Harry Stafford (Ongetta Centro Seta) crashed out on the second lap, whilst Mahindra Racing rider Danny Webb retired to the pits after struggling with the pain caused by a fractured shoulder.
