Mugello MotoGP: Marquez snatches Moto2 pole

Marc Márquez (Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol) managed to snatch his second pole position of the season back from Alex de Angelis (JIR Moto2) in the final lap of Moto2 qualifying at Mugello.

British Tech 3 racing rider Bradley Smith rode consistently quickly in the wet conditions, at one point lapping fastest around the Italian circuit, before securing third place on the grid for tomorrow’s race.

Xavier Simeon (Tech 3 B) qualified in fourth place and will start from the front of the second row ahead of Randy Krummenacher (GP Team Switzerland Kiefer Racing) and Pol Esparagaro (HP Tuenti Speed Up) who complete qualified in fifth and sixth respectively.

Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) started to set some competitive times in the final few minutes of the qualifying session before suffering mechanical problems and falling back to start from seventh on the grid, in front of Mattia Pasini (Ioda Racing Project) who had also shown promise, setting the fastest lap mid-way through the session, prior to slipping back to eighth. Finn Mika Kallio (Marc VDS Racing) completes the third row of the grid in ninth.

Kallio’s team mate Scott Redding qualified in twenty-eighth place.
