Ben Spies convinced he can win more MotoGP races

Ben Spies reckons his stunning recent debut victory in Assen has given him the confidence and self-belief to go on and win more MotoGP races in the future.

Spies joined an illustrious list of American winners in Holland when he streaked away from Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso to win the famous Assen TT last month.

The Texan then followed up that breakthrough performance with a solid fourth place in the recent Italian Grand Prix at Mugello.

But the 2009 World Superbike champion believes the confidence gained from breaking his premier class victory duck will help him compete for more wins and he told MCN: “It helps the confidence for sure but I’m not going to say I’m going to win again this weekend or if it will happen five more times this year.

“It makes me know that when the bike is good and I’m riding well that I can win. That’s the most important thing and that’s all I need to know in my head, so it does make you feel better. I might not win as often as Casey or Jorge (Lorenzo) but it can happen and that’s important for my mind.”
