Colin Edwards reckons the return of Castrol to the World Superbike championship brought good memories flooding back.

The Texan enjoyed the biggest success of his long career while riding for the Castrol Honda squad before he left to join MotoGP back in 2003 with Aprilia.

Edwards won his first WSB title for the British-based Castrol Honda squad in 2000 and he then completed one of the most remarkable comebacks in racing history to win the title again in 2002.

Edwards, who currently rides for the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team in MotoGP, won nine races in a row in ’02 to snatch victory over Aussie rival Troy Bayliss in a dramatic final round shootout at the Imola track.

Castrol is back in WSB in 2011 having signed a deal to sponsor the Ten Kate Honda squad that will run Jonathan Rea and Ruben Xaus and 36-year-old Edwards told MCN: “My dad actually sent me the web link to check out the pictures and it certainly bought back a lot of good memories.

“They had a really good outfit when I was on the team. I guess they left for a reason but they felt it was time to get back in and I’m happy to see those colours again. I had some awesome times when Castrol and Honda were together.”
