Heavy rain disrupts Estoril Moto2 test

Heavy rain has already disrupted the start of the Moto2 and 125GP test at the Estoril track in Portugal this morning.

The track was supposed to open at 9am this morning but the coastal circuit close to Cascais is currently being hit by heavy rain, according to Marc VDS Racing rider Scott Redding.

The 18-year-old told MCN: “It is pouring with rain and not looking great at all. The track was open at 9am but we didn’t even leave the hotel until then because the weather is so grim.”

Redding unfortunately reported that forecasts are for rain throughout the entire three-day test at a circuit, which is renowned for its unpredictable weather conditions given its close proximity to the Atlantic.

Last October’s race was severely disrupted by strong winds and torrential rain that got so severe that qualifying had to be abandoned.

Redding added: “The forecast is for rain for the whole test. It looks like I might have to get my rain suit out for a day and at least do some testing in the wet.”

The Gloucestershire rider finished last weekend’s Valencia test on top of the timesheets having shared the best time with reigning 125GP world champion Marc Marquez.
