Teams wishing to participate in the 2011 Moto2 world championship will have to apply for their places by the start of next month’s Japanese Grand Prix at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit.

The 250cc two-stroke replacement class has proved to be a roaring success in 2010 with the more affordable four-stroke series attracting a bumper entry of 40 bikes at the start of the season.

Interest in the 2011 world championship has already been high with the International Race Teams Association inundated with interest from a series of new teams.

MCN understands that any new team wishing to compete in the 2011 Moto2 series will have to submit its application to IRTA by September 28, giving full details of sponsors and rider choice.

The final deadline for all 2011 applications will be on the Friday (October 1) of opening practice for the Japanese Grand Prix.

Existing teams that have campaigned the 2010 series will also have to go through the application process and are not immediately assured of a place on next years’ grid.

Provisional acceptance to teams will then be made the following week on October 8 at the Sepang Grand Prix in Malaysia.

Those teams granted an entry will then need to a pay 20,000 Euro security deposit per rider by October 29 in Estoril.

The idea is then to unveil a list of accepted entries during the final round of the season in Valencia in early November.
