Fifty per cent of entries rejected for 2011 Moto2 class

Over fifty per cent of teams that applied to be part of the 2011 Moto2 world championship were turned down after selection meetings in Japan recently.

The huge success of the inaugural four-stroke 600cc class saw applications submitted by 36 teams for 61 riders for next year’s series.

But that was quickly whittled down to 15 teams and 29 riders being accepted, including Scott Redding’s Marc VDS Racing squad.

A limited number of other teams have been placed on a pending list with the final grid expected to expand to 36 or 38 bikes.

Accepted teams now have until the end of October to confirm their riders and pay a 20,000 Euro security fee per rider.

A final entry list will be released in early November in Valencia.
