Scott Redding: ‘I made more moves than Michael Jackson’
Scott Redding had boasted prior to an epic Estoril Moto2 race last weekend that he would need to pull off more moves than Michael Jackson having qualified in a dismal 25th.
So it was perhaps fitting that he produced a thriller performance after the rising British star finished just 0.012s off the podium.
The 17-year-old started the last lap in eighth but produced a series of breathtaking overtakes to move into fourth and he was just pipped to a third Moto2 podium by Alex de Angelis.
“Michael Jackson would have been proud of some of those moves, “beamed Redding, who struggled initially on a damp track with a hard Dunlop rear tyre choice.
The Marc VDS Racing rider said: “On the wet parts with that hard rear it was ridiculously loose. Once it dried I was pulling some mega moves and there were a few tight ones to say the least.
“I think I had more contact in those last few laps than I’ve had in my whole career. It was one of the best races I’ve been in and it got a bit close at times, but I got so carried away I thought there were five laps to go when I saw the chequered flag.
“I’m happy to come from 25th to fourth but a bit disappointed that I only just missed the podium.”
