Colin Edwards hails Jorge Lorenzo’s Jerez win

American rider Colin Edwards has hailed Jorge Lorenzo’s late victory in last weekend’s Spanish MotoGP race as ‘brilliant’.

The double World Superbike champion is a big admirer of 23-year-old Lorenzo, who produced a stunning late attack to claim his first premier class win on home soil by just over 0.5s from compatriot Dani Pedrosa.

Lorenzo’s performance saw him seize the lead in the 2010 MotoGP world championship from bitter rival and factory Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi.

Lorenzo is now four-points clear in the early title chase and Edwards said performances like Jerez make him a formidable adversary for Rossi this season.

Edwards told MCN: “Hell, I know roughly what bike he is riding and for him to come from where he did was pretty incredible.

“I got behind the Hondas and it was pretty tough. To chase Dani down and ride like he did, hats off to him because he rode brilliantly.”
