Sete Gibernau targets Catalunya return

Spanish veteran Sete Gibernau is hopeful he will be fit to return action in his home race in Catalunya next month after undergoing successful surgery on his broken left collarbone yesterday.

Gibernau had a plate and screws inserted in the damaged left collarbone, which has given the nine-times MotoGP persistent problems since he first damaged in the infamous first corner pile-up in Catalunya back in 2006.

Gibernau, who had stepped out of retirement in 2009 to race a Ducati GP9 for the Grupo Francisco Hernando squad, will definitely miss the next race in Mugello on May 31, and as yet there has been confirmation of a replacement ride.

He broke his collarbone in a high-side crash during practice for last weekend’s French GP in Le Mans.
