Yamaha happy with new anti-wheelie strategy

Jorge Lorenzo’s Fiat Yamaha team boss Daniele Romagnoli is confident a new electronic anti-wheelie system will help the 2009 YZR-M1 defeat Ducati’s factory GP9 this season.

Yamaha has been experimenting with new anti-wheelie systems to help acceleration out of slower corners. That issue was a common complaint of all Yamaha riders in 2008, though last year’s YZR-M1 still won ten races.

Romagnoli told MCN: “It is more accurate how we calculate wheelie control. Last year sometimes it was not really smooth and this new strategy gives you the sense to open the throttle earlier and keep it open more.

“We have needed this with the shorter wheelbase bike which can cause a wheelie problem.”
