Catalunya MotoGP: Iannone takes victory in Barcelona

1 of 1

Ongetta team Aprilia rider Andrea Iannone has taken the win in Catalunya after Spaniard Julian Simon made a costly mistake.

Julian Simon was in the lead on the penultimate lap, but when he crossed the line to start the final lap thought the race had finished, releasing the throttle and celebrating.

This left Iannone free to charge past and complete the final lap unchallenged.

Simon was then left to battle it out for third with four other riders. On crossing the line, it seemed Simon had just taken third spot.

On further inspection, after Simon had parked up in parc ferme, it was revealed that team-mate Sergio Gadea had taken third place.

Brits Bradley Smith and Scott Redding finished eighth and 11th respectively.
