Danny Webb will have to wait a bit longer to make his 2009 track debut while Aprilia continue to build up and deliver new bikes.

Pre-season testing for some of the 2009 125GP grid kicked off in Jerez yesterday, with Bradley Smith and Scott Redding starting in impressive fashion as they finished second and fifth quickest respectively.

But British teenager Webb, who enjoyed his best world championship campaign in 2008 claiming a career best result of fifth in Estoril, is still sidelined as Aprilia meets huge demand for its kit machines.

Webb’s Dutch-based Molenaar squad is expecting to take delivery of its new bike in mid-February Webb will not be out on track until next month and he said: “The bikes aren’t ready at the moment.

“It would have been nice to be out testing but there is still a fair bit of testing time before the start of the season so I’m sure I’ll be prepared and ready for the first race.

“I’m really looking forward to being out on the new bike because it is going to be an upgrade on what I rode last season and I was happy with how the Aprilia performed.”

The new season gets underway in Qatar with the second night race on April 12.
