The new Maxtra 125GP team will officially unveil British rider Matt Hoyle as its second rider later this week.

Although Hoyle’s name appeared on the provisional 2009 entry list, no formal announcement has been by the new Maxtra outfit, which is spearheaded by British motorsport legend John Surtees.

The 17-year-old claimed five successive podium finishes in the 2008 Red Bull Rookies Cup and he’s been a long-term target for Maxtra team boss Garry Taylor, who once managed Suzuki’s official MotoGP team.

Hoyle has tested the Chinese-backed Maxtra machine in the UK at the back end of 2008 and he will join Michael Ranseder.

Confirmation of his deal will see British interest in the 125GP class increase to four, with Hoyle joining experienced world championship campaigner Bradley Smith, British GP winner Scott Redding and highly-rated Danny Webb.

Pre-season testing for the 2009 125GP series is scheduled to commence next Monday in Jerez, quickly followed by a test session in Valencia.

Maxtra team boss Taylor confirmed to MCN the team has opted to miss those two tests to conduct its own private testing programme for now.
