Matt Hoyle makes official 125GP debut

British rider Matt Hoyle made his debut for the new Maxtra 125GP team in Valencia yesterday (Thursday), ending 10th quickest for the John Surtees-inspired project.

The 17-year-old clocked a best time of 1.48.5 on the opening day as the Maxtra bike made its first competitive appearance against Derbi and Aprilia machines.

Hoyle’s time on the bike, which features a chassis built by Harris Performance and an engine designed by two-stroke guru Jan Witteveen, was over six seconds off the pace of Scott Redding’s former team-mate Efren Vazquez.

Hoyle’s Austrian team-mate Michael Ranseder was seventh quickest with a best time of 1.46.4.

Vazquez topped the timesheets with a fastest lap of 1.42.1
