James Toseland eyes Indy top six

Tech 3 Yamaha rider James Toseland has set his sights on another top six finish in this weekend’s inaugural Indianapolis MotoGP clash.

The British rider claimed his first top six finish since early June in Misano last time out as he shrugged off Michelin’s recent disappointing form to move back into the top ten in the 2008 standings.

And looking ahead to Sunday’s 28-lap Indy encounter, Toseland said: “Being back in that top six in Misano was a huge boost and one that I really needed after a tough period. At the start of the season I was a regular in the top six and that’s where I’ve always wanted to be, so Misano was a lift for everybody in the team.

“I’ve always believed I’m capable of being in the top six because we have seen how competitive the Yamaha has been. And I’ll be looking for another good result in Indianapolis.”

Only Ben Spies has previous experience of riding the new Indy circuit on a MotoGP bike and Toseland said: “For once I won’t be coming to a new track being the only completely novice! Nobody has been to Indy so it should level the playing field out and not be as big of a disadvantage as it has been on some of the other tracks that I’ve never seen before.”
