MotoGP: Danny Webb reflects on career best finish in Qatar

Just four days after celebrating his best ever world 125GP championship finish, British teenager Danny Webb has been looking back on his brilliant start to 2008.

Webb finished sixth in the floodlit season opening race in Doha to easily beat his previous best as he impressed on his Aprilia debut.

Running in contention for the podium in the early laps, a front tyre problem saw Danny Webb lose contact with the leading bunch, but he was still delighted with his performance on a great night for British racing.

Webb told MCN: “It was a great feeling and to be honest it was quite easy. Running with the front guys was pretty good but their bikes are faster and it was quite hard.

“I was having to carry more corner speed. They could go in, stop it and fire it out. I felt comfortable and only dropped off when the front tyre started to go off a little bit.

“I knew it was going to do it but that setting was what I was comfortable with. We tried a setting that was better for the tyre life but I wasn’t comfortable with it.

“It was a risk to stick with what we knew might cause problems.

“At one point I thought I could hang in there until the last couple of laps and go for it, but the front started to tuck and I’d rather finish sixth than crash. But it is still a great start for me.”
