Tom Wheatcroft should be ashamed

A few years ago i visited donnington for the moto gp, watched valentino rossi win in convincing style and left with the feeling the place was very run down.So this year after having heard how much the circuit had been improved,i thought id go again taking advantage of the mcn cheap advance ticket deals. We decided to camp, which probably wasnt a good idea and certainly wasnt cheap as we were charged per person rather than per tent.

When we arrived on friday we were parked in a seriously rutted field and the exhaust on my van grounded so hard I thought it was gonna be ripped off.We then had to carry our camping gear at least half a mile to the packed campsite. The facilitys at the campsite were worse than glastonbury with a pathetic number of portaloos considering there were thousands of campers and they soon became useless as they clogged up.

Fortunately everyone seemed to have the dunkirk spirit and we soon made new friends at the campsite and had a good laugh despite the bad weather. On saturday we watched the qualifying from the craner curves and the riders really showed lots of balls in the greasy conditions, particually chris vermulen, anthony west and casey stoner. The ducati sounded awesome and made us forget about the soggy viewing.

Sunday was at least dry but was so windy I thought my tent was going to blow away and I felt really sorry for the riders having to race. Of course it was a great days racing apart from the appauling commentry and the dodgy mike given to neil makenzie on the grid to interview the riders and or course James Toselands miserable luck crashing right in front of us at redgate.

Unfortunately we didnt have much luck either as despite getting in the van to leave at 4 20 pm we didnt move at all for the first two hours and eventually we left the circuit just after 9pm. As I had 300 miles to drive after this you can imagine I wasnt impressed and I finally got home feeling pretty shattered at 3am.

The verdict – if the british moto gp venue is at donnington next year I will spend my hard earned cash travelling to a foreign race instead. Its a shame as the circuit itself is great but the management couldnt organise a piss up in a brewery and they certainly dont give a monkeys about how they treat the spectators.
