Chris Vermeulen keen to stay at Suzuki

Aussie Chris Vermeulen will try and extend his deal with Suzuki’s factory squad in MotoGP next season.

Vermeulen has been linked with Kawasaki’s factory team again and his representatives have also held tentative discussions with the Tech 3 Yamaha team.

A shock return to World Superbikes has also been mentioned, though the former World Supersport champion confirmed last weekend at the British GP that he wanted to stay on a factory GSV-R.

Vermeulen’s manager Phil Baker told MCN: “Chris is a loyal person and he is here to win the world championship. Suzuki is improving and he likes it at Suzuki. The option is there until Lagune Seca time.

“We haven’t sat down with Suzuki at this stage because it is such a busy period.  We know they are looking for performance and results and we are sitting back and we are ready to talk to them when they are ready.

“As we get closer to the summer break we will be sitting down and seeing what their feelings are. We are always looking out what is out there. For him it is not about money or prestige, it is about winning.”
