Casey Stoner fighting fit for Laguna Seca

In-form world champion Casey Stoner reckons he is back to 100 per cent fitness for this weekend’s American GP.

Stoner confirmed he has made quick and complete recovery from a bout of sickness that he suffered during the recent wet Sachsenring race.

After dominating for the third successive race in Germany, Stoner revealed he was struck down by a stomach bug prior to the race, and he nearly vomited during a post race BBC TV interview.

But he has recovered and is raring to go as he tries to notch a second straight win at Laguna Seca.

“I don’t think it was food poisoning but I felt like vomiting a lot last weekend. I never did once but it was quite a bad and heavy feeling in my stomach and I was struggling a little bit with concentration.

“It is nice to be rid of that. It didn’t hang around for long but it didn’t make me feel at my best, so it is nice to come here 100 per cent healthy, “said the 22-year-old, who arrived in California as a serious title contender again after a stunning burst of form.

Stoner has guided his Ducati GP8 to four successive pole positions and three wins and he added: “I couldn’t have asked for a lot more from these last few races and I have been fast in the wet and dry.

“I really enjoyed this race last year and it would be nice if we can have a similar result. But it is definitely going to be a lot of hard work.”
