Edwards targets recovery in Le Mans

Colin Edwards believes he will be able to get his MotoGP world championship season back on track in France after his nightmare in the last two races.

Taken out on the first lap in last month’s Turkish GP, the American had a torrid race in China recently when he slumped to a disappointing 11th place with rear tyre problems.

The double World Superbike champion though heads to the Le Mans GP on May 20, 2007 confident he can put his recent misery behind him.

“Hell, I go good at Le Mans, in fact I love Le Mans. I was on the podium there in 2005 and Le Mans always comes good for me,” said Edwards, who believes his factory Yamaha YZR-M1 machine will be a tough package to beat, despite Ducati’s brilliant start to the new 800cc era.

“This bike’s going to be an absolute weapon around there, no question. Our bike is awesome. We might be lacking a little bit of top speed, but what we make up in agility and around the corners far outweighs what we lose on one straight,” added the Texan.

Edwards is also hoping for big improvements from Michelin in time for the Le Mans race, with the French manufacturer needing a good race on home soil to fight back against an onslaught from Bridgestone.

He added: “We need something. If it means some overtime in France, that’s what we need.”
