First 125 win for Pesek

Czech rider Lucas Pesek scored his first Grand Prix victory this morning at the fourth race of the season in China.

The Derbi rider took the win in front of a freight train of around ten riders all in with a chance of crossing the line first, including Brit Bradley Smith.

Smith, who started from the front of the second row got a storming start, moving into second position by the first turn behind pole sitter Mattia Pasini.

However, like in the past Smith struggled in the opening stages of the race dropping to the depths of 14th place at one point while numerous riders scrapped it out at the front.

The lengthy back straight in Shanghai made for some superb 125 slip-streaming action culminating in a dice for the lead in the closing laps between ten individuals.

Smith’s Repsol Honda team-mate Esteve Rabat impressed, barging his way through the pack to lead for a number of laps and eventually crossing the line in third.

Pasini dropped back in the latter stages looking to had suffered from more mechanical problems that have plagued his season so far.

Hector Faubel crossed the line in second behind 21-year-old Pesek who managed to pull a gap on the last lap that aided a win of 0.7 seconds over Spaniard Faubel and the rest of the field.

Gabor Talmasci finished fourth, doing no harm to his championship lead, and Bradley Smith crossed the line in eighth after a late surge.
