Lorenzo on provisional 250 pole

Jorge Lorenzo has secured provisional pole this afternoon in Shanghai by going fastest in the first qualifying practice sessions.

The Spaniard was second quickest this morning in free practice, but managed to beat his own best from earlier by almost a second and a half at 2:05.276.

Honda rider, Julian Simon was a slight surprise in second place as he set a fastest lap of 2:05.587 round the 3.281 mile track.

Alvaro Bautista rounded off a top three for Spain as he moved up from sixth fastest to third with his 2:05.650 lap.

This morning’s fastest rider, Hector Barbera was in fifth place this afternoon, although he did improve his time by almost half a second.

Irish rider Eugene Laverty posted a fastest time of 2:09.459 on his Honda to complete the session in 22nd position. He did, however, take more than four seconds off his morning time and moved up two places.
