Alvaro Bautista heads into this afternoons qualifying session with the fastest 250 lap of the weekend, recording a 1.33.397 with six minutes left on the clock in this morning’s free practice.

Bautista’s team-mate Alex De Angelis, who was fastest yesterday afternoon in less than favourable conditions, topped the timing sheets for a good portion of this midday session until the current 125 champion knocked him off the perch with 10 minutes left.

Only four riders dropped into the 1.38’s; Bautista, De Angelis with a 1.33.471, Marco Simoncelli with a 1.33.483 and world champion Jorge Lorenzo scoring a 1.33.961.

The fiery Fortuna Aprilia rider showed his dissatisfaction with Campetella Racing’s Fabrizio Lai when he held him up on a fast lap at the Melbourne Loop, overtaking the Italian while gesturing at him to move aside.

Eugene Laverty got his LCR Honda up to 16th fastest appearing happier with the bike than yesterday where he complained of being unable to get the tyres to warm up enough.
