German MotoGP: Hofmann to race in Sachsenring MotoGP with broken right hand

Home favourite Alex Hofmann will contest Sunday’s German MotoGP race with a broken right hand that he suffered in a freak accident just five days ago.

The D’Antin Ducati rider revealed he has a metal plate and seven screws in his hand after a friend accidentally slammed it in a car door before a planned training ride.

The incident occurred last Saturday morning at Hofmann’s Switzerland home. Later on the same day he was in Munich undergoing surgery in a bid to be fit for his home race on Sunday.

Hofmann said: “I was trying to get out of the car and was using my hand to help. My friend didn’t realise and shut the door on it. Unbelievably considering it was only five days ago I injured it and had the operation, the hand feels really strong. I don’t have any problem with force and at the moment I can’t see it being a big problem under braking or on the throttle. The problem is these 800cc bikes are so physical to ride.”
