FIM wants MotoGP growth

New FIM president Vito Ippolito has vowed to have a more global MotoGP world championship in the future, with more riders emerging from countries not known for being hotbeds of motorcycling talent.

Ippolito said: “We have three big areas in the world – Asia, Latin America, and Africa – where motorcycle sport needs to develop. I think the FIM has to invest in these countries to have more events and especially to have more riders.

“If we can achieve this goal in a few years I think we will have a lot of riders from new countries. Now nobody can think of a rider from India in a world championship, but we have to think in a positive manner.

“We can develop the sport in this country. We have to invest a part of our money in this area of the world where the sport needs to be developed.”
