OJ wants improvement

Olivier Jacque says there is still plenty of room for improvement despite Kawasaki’s encouraging start to the new 800cc MotoGP era.

Jacque, who missed most of last week’s IRTA test in Qatar after suffering concussion and multiple bruising in a massive first day crash, has been back on track today (Friday) in Jerez.

He said: “We need more engine performance with a better throttle connection and better torque. We also need some top power.
“We also need more edge grip at maximum lean angle from Bridgestone because of the faster corner speeds on the 800.”

Despite the setback in Qatar last week, Jacque says he is enjoying being back on the premier class stage full-time having not raced full-time in MotoGP since 2003.

The former world 250 champion said: “I am not afraid because I need to awake all the senses and learn again the way I used to work in the past.

“I’m enjoying it a lot even though I am not as fast as I’d like or will need to be. The way to set up the bike and work with a racing team is an experience I’ve forgotten a little bit.”
