No tyre issue for Edwards

Colin Edwards has backed the new tyre restrictions that will come into force for the 2007 MotoGP world championship.

In a cost-cutting move, Michelin, Bridgestone and Dunlop agreed to limit the number of tyres made available to riders during a race weekend, with each only having 17 rear and 14 fronts to select from.

Riders must choose their allocation on the day before official practice starts, and double World Superbike champion Edwards said: “I think it will be better. I don’t think I ever used 17 rears in a race weekend anyway. But we always had 10 different kinds of a certain spec.

“The new regulations mean you’ll have three of one and four of another and work like that. So it will be interesting.”
