Capirossi tops day 1

Loris Capirossi has dominated the first day of practice for the Malaysian GP.

The Italian rider put in the fastest time in the first session then proceeded to knock a further more than a second off his time to finish the afternoon practice with a 2:01.711 lap.

Capirossi was the only rider to dip below the 2:02 mark with the second fastest lap in the afternoon session going to the Repsol Honda of Dani Pedrosa at 2:02.021.

Kenny Roberts took third place on the provisional grid half a second behind Pedrosa with John Hopkins a further two tenths down.

Casey Stoner came in fifth fastest with Makoto Tamada finishing the second row.
