Edwards ready for 800s

1 of 1

Yamaha star Colin Edwards gets his first taste tomorrow (Wednesday Nov 15, 2006) of the all-new 800cc M1 he and team-mate Valentino Rossi will campaign in MotoGP next year.
So far Rossi is the only one of the pair to test the bike, and with the Italian missing this week’s major three-day test at Sepang in Malaysia because he competes in the New Zealand Rally, Edwards gets the new bike all to himself.

The two-time WSB champ said: ‘“It’s going to be a big change for some people but I’m excited about our bike because we’re not reinventing the wheel. We’re not coming out with some new chassis and some new swing-arm. We’re starting with something we know so we don’t have to figure out a brand new chassis.
“The good thing about the 800 is that with horsepower you run into problems. Cut the horsepower and you get ride of some of those problems. And they can’t really squeeze the horsepower of the 990s out of an 800 can they?”
He also shot down talk that only 250 riders would thrive on the new more compact 800s.
