Valentino Rossi has gone fastest in both free practice sessions for the Chinese GP round on Sunday, May 14, 2006.

Rossi managed to improve from his first session time by almost three seconds to head the second practice with 2:09.393. Second fastest was Loris Capirossi with 2:09.748, and Suzuki are again benefitting from bad weather with John Hopkins third fastest on the Rizla machine with 2:10.007. Gibernau was fourth quickest, followed by Nicky Hayden, Marco Melandri, and top rookies Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner. Britain’s James Ellison is 17th quickest, heading the two Pramac Ducatis. Ellison has made a big improvment from the first session, moving up one place, but also chopping 6.5 seconds from his time with 2:15.880. To see the full timesheet, click here.

In 250cc GP first qualifying, Anthony West is on provisional pole on the Kiefer Bos Aprilia, with a time of 2:16.726, which would also have put him 18th fastest on the MotoGP grid, almost three seconds faster than Cardoso on the Pramac Ducati. Second fastest was Yuki Takahashi, with 2:16.859 on the Humangest Honda, with Jorge Lorenzo in third spot with 2:17.161. Last race winner Aoyama is 14th on the KTM, and British Campetella Aprilia rider Chaz Davies is 21st with 2:22.392. To see the full timesheet, click here.

In 125cc first qualifying, Mika Kallio heads the field with a time of 2:21.545 on the KTM. Alvaro Bautista is second quickest on the leading MVA Aspar Aprilia with 2:22.249, and Lukas Pesek was third for Derbi Racing with 2:22.726. Britain’s Bradley Smith is 29th.
