Hofmann in for Gibernau

Alex Hofmann will replace Sete Gibernau on the Ducati Desmosedici at this weekend’s Assen GP.

The German rider was chosen by Ducati to stand in for Gibernau after horror crash that saw him break his collar bone in the Catalunya GP on Sunday.

Hofmann is currently riding an 06 spec Ducati Desmosedici so wont need to get used to anything radically different and he already has experience with Bridgestone tyres from his day’s with Kawasaki.

Loris Capirossi, who was also caught up in the crash will be riding at Assen but he wont be up to full fitness so Hoffman is needed to put in the laps and help with setting the bikes up for Assen.

Gibernau underwent surgery on his collarbone today, June 20, and looks likely to miss the next two races.

"The operation went well", said Dr Mir, after the operation on Gibernau. "We removed the plate covering the old injury to Sete Gibernau’s left collarbone and repaired the new fracture by applying a new titanium plate. The rider will now have to wait between 3 to 5 weeks before being able to race again".

Spanish Formula Extreme rider Ivan Silva will stand in for Hofmann on the d’Antin Pramac Ducati.
