Hayden wins Assen TT

Nicky Hayden has snatched victory from Colin Edwards at the Assen GP extending his championship lead.

Edwards looked set to take his first win in MotoGP and was leading Hayden in to the last corner but the pair were working so hard that both of them ran off the track with Edwards coming off his bike while Hayden managed to recover and take his first win of the season and extend his championship lead to 42 points.

Shinya Nakano was promoted to second place on his Kawasaki finally getting the reward for his consistently strong qualifying, with Dani Pedrosa claiming the final place on the podium after a long battle to get through the pack.

Despite doubts that he would ride after quiting qualifying early as a result of previous injuries Valentino Rossi managed climb from last on the grid to hold on to eighth place, limiting the damage to his championship hopes.

Ducati Rider Loris Capirossi wasn’t as lucky. The Italian was obviously in tremendous pain and only managed to keep Ivan Silva and Jose Luis Cardoso behind him.
