Roberts dominates day 1

1 of 1

Kenny Roberts has dominated the first day of practice for the US GP at Laguna Seca.

Roberts set the fastest time in both the morning and afternoon practice sessions with only fellow American Nicky Hayden coming close. Roberts was the only man to break the 1:24 barrier.

Dani Pedrosa took the third fastest time on day one despite never having seen the circuit before, while Chris Vermeulen’s prior World Superbike knowledge of the track helped him take the Rizla Suzuki to fifth fastest behind Marco Melandri.

Valentino Rossi struggled at the newly resurface circuit taking the fifth fastest time in the morning but slipping to 11th in the afternoon session after running off the track at the Corkscrew.

The new tarmac has been causing problems all round with the bumps that were complained about last only being exaggerated by the new surface and many riders complaining that it is now quite slippery.
