Dani Pedrosa has qualified on pole for the German MotoGP with a stunning 1:21.815 lap time, despite a suprise last lap of 1:21.907 for Kenny Roberts Jr.

Pedrosa headed the time sheets towards the end of the session, from Repsol team-mate Nicky Hayden, and long time pole-sitter Shinya Nakano. But on the final lap of the session Roberts managed to put himself second on the grid. Meanwhile Valentino Rossi is still suffering, with a qualifying position outside the top ten.

Britain’s Bradley Smith has qualified in a fantastic 13th position on the Repsol Honda in the 125cc GP class. The grid will be headed by Lukas Pesek, who took pole for Derbi with 1:27.064, from MVA Aspar duo Alvaro Bautista and Mattia Pasini, with KTM’s Mika Kallio fourth. The second Derbi of Nicolas Terol took fifth. Smith meanwhile, whill line up one place behind reigning world champion Thomas Luthi, and in front of Sergio Gadea and Tomoyoshi Koyama. Provisional pole sitter Mattia Pasini remained fastest int he second free practice session, followed by Mika Kallio. Pasini’s MV Aspar team-mates were third (Faubel), fourth (Vautista), and sixth (Sergio Gadea). Britain’s Bradley Smith was an impressive ninth fastest.
