Camel cash starts row

1 of 1

The decision for Yamaha to run under Camel sponsorship in 2006 is now the subject of war of words between Yamaha and former sponsors Gauloises, a brand of Altadis.

The cigarette firm has issued a statement claiming that it has initiated arbitration proceedings for substantial compensation from Yamaha for damages from a breach of a two year agreement.

As well as seeking money, the firm is also looking for an interim order to stop Yamah collaborating with any sponsor with products that compete against Gauloise.

Yamaha has been quick to issue a retort, stating that the previous sponsorship agreement with Altadis was terminated for the 2006 season, that the previous agreement was not breached, and without any current agreement there is no legal obligation to stop Yamaha doing a deal with any potential sponsor.

The Japanese firm also claims that is has not been notified of any Request for Arbitration.

The Camel move came after the departure of Max Biaggi from the MotoGP series. It has already left the Pons Honda team out of the championship until 2007.
