Gibernau on pole

Sete Gibernau is on pole for the first Turkish Gran Prix at the Istanbul Park circuit on Sunday, October 22, 2005.

Gibernau benefitted from a mistake by Marco Melandri, who had dominated the practice sessions, but ran wide during his final lap during qualifying. The Movistar Honda duo were joined under one minute 33 seconds by works Honda rider Nicky Hayden.

Chrhis Vermeulen took 11th place with his second ride for the Camel Honda team. Britain’s James Ellison again outqualified his Blata WCM team-mate Franco Battaini, to take 18th position.
