Rossi takes control

Valentino Rossi has broken the Honda dominance of the Sepang MotoGP test.

Rossi beat yesterday’s best time of 2:02.99, set by Marco Melandri, by 0.38 seconds riding the 2006 Yamaha M1.

Melandri managed to improve his time down to 2:02.65 but it wasn’t enough to fend off Rossi’s charge.

Toni Elias, now on a Honda, knocked nearly two seconds off his time to take the third fastest lap followed by the Yamaha of Colin Edwards.

The MotoGP rookies set the slowest laps with Casey Stoner coming in 10th followed by Chris Vermeulen and Randy De Puniet.

Brit James Ellison managed to go slower on his second day on the Yamaha, dropping 0.42 seconds to finish the slowest rider on the test.
