Spanish win for Rossi

Valentino Rossi overcame a determined challenge from Spaniard Sete Gibernau to take the win and deny the Honda rider a home triumph.

Rossi led away from the grid, but a moment allowed Gibernau past, and created a challenge for the Italian, which he finally overcame to take the win.

Rossi was joined on the podium by fellow Yamaha rider Marco Melandri, who finished third. Carlos Checa and Colin Edwards both enjoyed a resurgence with fourth and fifth, in front of surprise top Ducati, Rueben Xaus.

And the Brits did well with Neil Hodgson claiming points in 12th place, and Shane Byrne following him home in 13th.
