Ducati duo first and second on grid for Jerez

The Ducati duo of Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss have taken first and second places on the grid for tomorrow’s MotoGP race at Jerez in Spain.

Capirossi topped the time sheets with a 1:41.993s, 10 hundredths of a second in front of his Australian teammate.

Behind them, the Camel Honda riders Max Biaggi and Tohru Ukawa took third and fourth, with reigning champion Valentino Rossi pushed down to fifth on the Repsol Honda.

Sete Gibernau had led after the first qualifying session, but found himself unable to go any faster in the second session, slipping to fifth, with Suzuki’s John Hopkins, Nobuatsu Aoki and Oliver Jacque rounding all made it into the top ten..

Carlos Checa is tenth, Colin Edwards eleventh and British rider Jeremy McWilliams is fourteenth on the Proton Team KR bike.

Fortunes haven’t improved for the Kawasaki MotoGP team, with all three riders, Pitt, Hofmann, and McCoy tailing the back of the field.
