British 125 champ moves to GPs

Who would have thought that it would be a footballer that would provide the break for a British rider to make the jump in to GPs. But that is exactly what has happened to 21-year-old Chris Martin.

The reigning British 125 Champion was recently confirmed on the official GP entry list as riding for the Seedorf Aprilia team.

The man that has been pouring all the money in to the team is Holland International and Inter Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf, commonly thought of as one of the best players in the world. The footballer is a long time racing fan and will be running the team, which will be using works engines next year.

Riding alongside Martin in the team, that was due to be backed by soccer giant Atletico Madrid, will be Spanish rider Alvaro Bautista. Another Brit, Leon Camier, will also be joining the pair after two encouraging tests in Valencia and Jerez.

Commenting on the move Martin Said: “I lapped Jerez three seconds quicker than ever before and I was using one of last year’s Aprilia engines. The team will get works engines from Aprilia, which should make the bikes really quick. I’ve just been waiting for a chance like this.”
