American GP postponed until 2005

The plans to run an American Grand Prix have been postponed until 2005.

” There have been talks about having a GP in the U.S. in 2004, specifically in Birmingham, Alabama, ” says Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta. ” Although the feelings were very positive, the present situation makes it impossible for it to be included from next year. We will keep the discussion open, and hopefully everything can be ready and tied up for 2005. ”

The company managing spectator events at the Barber Motorsports Park, in Birmingham, Alabama, say the delay will allow them more time to prepare. An announcement regarding the 2005 event is expected this autumn.

An American round follows increased interest in the series, with WSB champ Colin Edwards, and reigning AMA Superbike champion Nicky Hayden joining Kenny Roberts Jr and John Hopkins in MotoGP.
