BSB: Knockhill becomes two-day event due to current restrictions

Round two of the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill has been reduced to a two-day event due to the latest Covid restrictions.

In a statement released today by BSB organisers MSV, it states that “the change in event format is for the Knockhill round only as it is subject to different jurisdiction to all other events in the championship and the circuit is working to different restrictions placed upon them.”

Hopes of more spectators being able to attend BSB races in the next couple of months were dashed this week due to the four-week delay to the final Covid restrictions being lifted – which is now pencilled in for July 19.

A maximum of 4000 fans will be able to attend the opening round at Oulton Park, but it’s not yet known how many, if any at all, will be able to visit Knockhill for the second racing meeting of the season.

The two-day event, held on July 10-11, will include the now traditional three Superbike races which will be supported by double-headers for each of the Quattro Group British Supersport/GP2 and Pirelli National Superstock Championships plus the Honda British Talent Cup.

The Pirelli Junior Superstock and HEL Performance Junior Supersport Championship races have been rescheduled to different events. The Junior Supertock series will have an additional race at Oulton Park (June 25-27), whilst the Junior Supersport class will have two additional races at the WSB Donington meeting (July 2-4).

The Molson Group British Sidecar Championship Knockhill round is cancelled, with no replacement races to be announced due to the World and British Sidecar Championship schedule.

The Knockhill race meeting will be broadcast live via free-to-air channel Quest, alongside its regular spot on Eurosport. The free-to-air availability is a huge bonus to fans who won’t be able to attend.
