BSB: Billy McConnell re-signs with Rich Energy OMG Racing in Superstock 1000

Billy McConnell has re-signed with Rich Energy OMG Racing BMW for a third consecutive British Superstock 1000 campaign.

The 35-year-old enjoyed a strong 2020 season after bouncing back from an injury-plagued 2019. McConnell took victory at Donington Park GP and also finished on the podium at Donington National and Snetterton. He ended the season fourth overall.

“I’m looking forward to continuing my journey with RICH Energy OMG Racing for the 20217 season and building on a positive 2020,” McConnell said. “The team is like a family, and the support they’ve always given me is something I never take for granted. They just let me enjoy my riding and we win and lose as a team.

“My first season with the team was a difficult one with my illness and then injuries later in the season, but I think in 2020 I got to show that I was back to being my best at points. Rewarding the team with that first victory at Donington is an amazing memory for me, and to celebrate it with my crew chief Shannon, Daz and the rest of the team.”

McConnell, like the team’s Superbike line-up of Kyle Ryde and Bradley Ray, will get his hands on the all-new BMW M1000 RR this season. 2021 marks McConnell’s fourth straight season in the Superstock 1000 class.

“2021 looks really exciting with the new M1000RR, last year’s bike was a weapon in the stock class so the new bike looks like another step up and will let us challenge for the title,” McConnell added. “The championship gets more competitive every season, but I’m up for the battle and can’t wait for the challenge.”

The 2021 season is scheduled to get underway at Oulton Park on the first weekend in May after a series of tests on British circuits throughout April. Currently, 11 rounds appear on the 2021 calendar.
