Bennetts British Superbike rookie Scott Redding made his intentions for the 2019 clear by topping the time sheets on the opening day of official testing at Monteblanco.

The 26 year old former MotoGP rider set a 1:37.335 lap time onboard the Be Wiser PBM V4 Ducati after completing 60 laps of the 2.440 mile Spanish circuit.

Redding said: “I’ve had great fun on the bike and gelled really well with the team. I’m looking forward to day two when we can test some more things with the engine and electronics to find the best way.”

In second place it was another BSB rookie, new Honda signing Xavi Fores. The 33 year old former WSB front runner has wasted no time adapting to the Honda and was the pace setter in the morning session before being topped by Redding in the afternoon.

Fores said: “For a first day it’s gone quite well. The bike is working well and this is something that makes me smile. Everything is new for me and here we have to traction control and no wheelie control so everything is different compared to my Superbike from last year.”

Jason O’Halloran continued his impressive switch to the McCams Yamaha R1 after a BSB career for Honda. The Australian looked quick and comfortable on what is now the oldest bike on the BSB grid by setting the third best time ahead of Danny Buchan onboard the FS-3 Kawasak and Luke Mossey riding the OMG Suzuki.
