BSB: Brookes: 'All I want to do is win races'

Josh Brookes has said he has no interest in looking at the points at Silverstone this weekend as he fights to secure his space in the 2018 Bennetts British Superbike showdown.

Despite being the only rider on the grid to have won more than one race other than series leader Leon Haslam this year, Brookes currently sits fourth in the championship standings after a tough round at Cadwell Park.

While he has a healthy buffer to Peter Hickman in sixth, anything can happen in BSB so the McAMS Yamaha rider has his mind set on winning races this weekend ahead of the three-round title fight set to get underway at Oulton Park next week.

“It has been a disappointing season so far,” he admits. “I think you can only really understand the situation if you are a part of our team and it would take a novel of thoughts to bring everybody up to date on how things are ever changing and the circumstances that bring certain results.

“I absolutely have no interest in looking at the points before the weekend – all I want to do is win races. The only thing I am focusing on is trying to do what I do every weekend and that is bring the bike up to a level where I can be competitive against the guys out on track.

“I need to win, that is it and that is the fact of it. I am not trying to salvage points, not trying to think about what I need to do to get in the top six, I am past all that and I literally just want to win races.”

The 2015 champion has been one of the most vocal riders about having to race on the 1.6-mile Silverstone national circuit this weekend instead of the 3.6-mile Grand Prix layout.

“Of course I’m not particularly happy about it, I don’t think many people are. The actions of the MotoGP riders would suggest that Silverstone is their worst circuit, whereas it’s the best circuit on our calendar so it’s a shame we have to run on the shorter version. I thought the track drawing was a joke at first, but it is what it is and we will be pushing for wins regardless.”
