BSB: Haslam: 'I'll sleep a little bit more easily ahead of Brands!'

Leon Haslam has said he should be able to sleep a little easier in the run up to Brands Hatch knowing he has a whopping 61-point title advantage over rival Jake Dixon.

Haslam added an extra 30 points to his series lead with a double win at Assen while rival Dixon broke down early in the second race.

Haslam now needs to amass just 14 points across the three races at Brands to take the title, needing to finish just 11th three times should Dixon win all three races.

“I’ve been quite reserved and chipping away this weekend, knowing in the back of my mind that whatever I did it would never be enough with how the showdown works,” Haslam told MCN.

“I’ve won 14 races this year, compared to Jake and Josh who have won three yet without Jake’s engine problem, it was more than possible he could have beaten me to the title at Brands. To have a 61-point lead definitely puts a smile on my face and I’ll sleep a little more easily over the next few weeks now.”

And while Haslam admitted he could sleep easier with the gap he’s now got, he was sympathetic towards rival Dixon.

“It’s such a shame for Jake to have a mechanical as he’d been riding so strong. I feel for him, I’ve lost championships through no fault of my own and it’s not nice.”
