BSB: Byrne hospitalised after Snetterton crash

Reigning Bennetts British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne has been taken to hospital following a crash in the opening session of today’s official Snetterton test.

The six-time champion crashed heavily on entry to Palmer’s (turn three) on just his third lap of the session, bringing out a red flag.

He was taken to the medical centre for assessment, where it was confirmed he was briefly unconscious following the incident and has since been taken to Norfolk hospital by ambulance for further checks. 

It has since been revealed by series organisers MSV that he is recieving treatment for ‘neck and back’ injuries, an update read: “Medical update at 18:00: Shane Byrne was transferred to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital where he has undergone further assessment and scans this afternoon. He is conscious and alert but remains under observation and is receiving treatment for neck and back injuries.”
