BSB: Ray: 'We know we've got the pace'

Bennetts British Superbike Championship leader Bradley Ray was unfazed despite ending the opening day of action at Brands Hatch just 17th on the timesheets.

After a dominant debut double at Donington two weeks ago, Ray was very much the focal point heading into his home round but rounded out the first day 17th quickest.

However, the 20-year-old, who only completed a handful of laps in the iffy conditions in the morning, insists there’s nothing to worry about and highlights that he spent the entire 45-minute afternoon session on the same harder option rear tyre while many of his rivals switched to new softs towards the end of the session.

“I know we are down in 17th or whatever, but the lap times round here are so close and we know we have good pace,” Ray told MCN.

“We used the same tyre all the way through the session, we’re trying a few different things with the bike and it’s going to be interesting. We’ve got nothing to worry about, I think we found something in that session that’ll be quite useful.

“I can guarantee everyone in front of me put a soft tyre in at the end and went for a lap time, everyone knows when you stick the soft tyre in you go half a second quicker. We’ve got the pace, there are no worries and we’ll be ready for qualifying.”
